Instructions for Connecting your Apple Device

1. On Your Car

  • Go to settings on the vehicle infotainment screen.
  • Go to the “Phone” page.
  • Select “Add Device” / “Add Phone.”
  • Make note of the Device Name. Most likely it will be “Subaru BT.”

2. On Your Apple Device

  • On the iOS/Apple device, go to settings.
  • Select “Bluetooth.”
  • Select “Subaru BT” or whatever the device name is.
  • Select “Pair.”
  • Allow Contacts and Favorites to sync.

3. Back to Your Vehicle Screen

  • On the vehicle screen, confirm the PIN and download phonebook contacts.

4. Back to Your Device

  • On the iOS/Apple device, the vehicle Bluetooth should now be listed under Bluetooth settings. Select the blue “i” next to the device name.
  • Ensure “Show Notifications” and “Sync Contacts” are enabled.

5. You’re Finished!

  • At this point, the iOS/Apple device is paired. We recommend restarting your car to complete the process and ensure everything is fully synced.
  • If your phonebook or messages are not appearing correctly, go to “Phone” on your home screen, select “Change Device” under “Overview” and ensure “Phonebook Download” is enabled.
  • Plug the iOS/Apple phone into the USB port of the vehicle. Ensure a quality USB-IF or MFI cable is being used.
  • Select “Allow” when prompted.
  • Select “Apple CarPlay” on the vehicle infotainment screen.
  • You will be brought to the home page of Apple CarPlay for the user’s phone.
  • Use a high-quality USB-IF or MFI cable.
  • Ensure the iOS/Apple phone is fully up to date.
  • Ensure all other apps that work on Apple CarPlay are up to date (Pandora, Apple Maps, Spotify, etc.). Apple CarPlay might not function correctly if one of these apps is outdated or having an issue. Apps can be updated in the App Store.
  • Visit the Apple CarPlay website for the latest info, FAQs and device compatibility. https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay
  • If CarPlay isn’t launching…
    • Confirm CarPlay is enabled by going to: Settings > Screen Time > Content and Privacy Restrictions.
    • If Content and Privacy Restrictions are enabled, the slider will be green. This means there might be apps like CarPlay disabled. If so…
    • Select “Allowed Apps.”
    • Ensure CarPlay is enabled. If slider is green, CarPlay is allowed.
  • For other CarPlay issues, Go to Settings and select “General” …
    • Select “CarPlay.”
    • From here you can manage all vehicles associated with the iOS/Apple device.
    • “Allow CarPlay While Locked” can be selected if you missed setting up Apple CarPlay.
    • “Forget This Car” can be selected to remove a vehicle and start from scratch.
