At Subaru, we believe what we leave behind is a reflection of who we are. That’s why for over two decades, Subaru has been committed to leaving a legacy of protecting and conserving the Earth for future generations.
As part of this commitment, Subaru is proud to announce a new partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation™ focused on keeping our neighborhoods green. Trees are essential to the health and well-being of our communities today and for future generations. Trees provide oxygen, cool our communities, filter water, clean the air, prevent flooding, and can improve health.
But every year, our communities lose 36 million trees due to age, disease, infestation, and extreme weather. Each spring for our Subaru Loves the Earth® initiative, Subaru and our retailers will provide and distribute trees to communities across the country. Anyone, regardless of owning a Subaru, can reserve a mature, regionally appropriate tree free of charge at their local participating Subaru retailer.
100,000 trees provided and distributed this year in partnership with Arbor Day Foundation.
Over 1.1 million trees provided through this and other initiatives.
We're proud to establish the largest corporate tree distribution ever.
Founded in 1972, the centennial of the first Arbor Day observance in the 19th century, the Arbor Day Foundation has grown to become the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees, with over 1 million members, supporters, and valued partners. Since its creation, the foundation has planted more than half a billion trees in over 60 countries.
Our Retailers in Action
Mark Miller Subaru, a Subaru retailer in north-central Utah with two locations in Midtown and South Towne, earned the 2023 Cox Automotive Leader in Sustainability Award. Embracing the broader Subaru Loves the Earth initiative, Mark Miller Subaru focuses on maintaining eco-friendly facilities and operations. Both retailer locations are solar-powered, with 60% of their energy provided by over 1,200 solar panels on the two rooftops. Water conservation is another focus area, with low-flow faucets and toilets in the showrooms and car washes that fully recycle the water used (saving 75 gallons of water per car wash). Additionally, eco-friendly materials are used throughout the facilities.
Subaru retailer Don Mealey Sport Subaru bought 75 acres of land that had been treated as an unofficial public dump for five decades. To practice their commitment to the environment, Mealey Subaru went through a four-year multimillion-dollar remediation of the wetland property. Mealey Subaru continued their dedication by donating 40 acres, along with $100,000, to Conservation Florida to protect the property’s vital ecosystem. This land now is the home of 20-30 species of reptiles and amphibians, fox squirrels, red-shouldered hawks, and a variety of vegetation. Don Mealey Sport Subaru has permanently protected a critical piece of one of the last remaining unpaved forested wetlands in the heart of Orlando.
Across the country, many retailers have received a certification in our Eco-Friendly Retailer Program. What does this mean? The Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailer Program is a voluntary environmental program designed for retailers who want to make a positive impact on their community and local environment. This comprehensive program helps Subaru retailers minimize environmental impact by focusing on reduced energy consumption. The program focuses on five key areas of a facility: Energy Efficiency, Water Conservation, Recycling, Waste Management, and Community Involvement. For example, Subaru retailers look to reduce water consumption by installing low-flow fixtures and a water-efficient car wash. Simultaneously, we ensure our eco-friendly retailers practice proper disposal of harmful waste, including oil, coolant, batteries, and tires. Our partner Green Dealer Support concluded an onsite inspection to make sure these retailers adhere to the requirements. We honor the stores that have been awarded the Eco-Friendly Retailer Program Certification as they work toward sustainability and doing right by our planet. Check your local retailer’s website for an Eco-Friendly Retailer Certification badge!!
